Just modified a 1975 jon to accept a 1.5 transom. My idea was to standardized it so anyone could go buy a treated 2x12 and easily replace it. Welded on an 1/8 lazer cut transom over the factory one. Put a layer.of silicone in between to slow corrosion. After all this was done i then found out about treated lumber and aluminum.

Jon boats are cheap and easy to find if I have a bad transom for the time effort and materials needed you can almost buy a new jon boat .

Metal transoms, especially in Salt water, are very prone to electrolysis from the outboard motor

I just pulled the wood from the transom on my 96 StarCraft vhull. (Did not touch the floor in the boat) Can I match the exact shape with your aluminum model? Or does the new aluminum transom need to go all the way to the floor? Wanting to put a 4 stroke 25 on her.

Yeah.... I'd probably just attach that metal to the outside, and call it a day.. let the ply wood just rot out inside and ignore it, then maybe eventually fill the gap with some kind of epoxy or structural spray foam and keep on keeping on. I'm more of a it might be ugly but works kind of guy

What metal hardware do you use to fasten the new aluminum transom?

Makes a guy wonder if they build these boats to only last a given number of years before the rot takes them forever.

Out of curiosity I see that aluminum transoms are only rated for 60 hp or less. Will there be new ones that can handle 115hp or less?

Thats BS. You need 2 sheets of plywood to take up the space. 🤔 Yawn.
