What is context?

Associate Professor Mark Amsler from the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics at the University of Auckland talks about his big question, “What is context?”

Amsler is currently working in the areas of medieval studies, history of linguistics, and cultural theory, moving between earlier periods and the contemporary scene. He is especially interested in pragmatics and written discourses, focusing on interactions in spoken and written texts. Heretical, nonconformist, and alternative communities are of particular interest in his current work, as well as vague language, language mixing, and genre play.

Mark Amsler is an Associate Professor in European Languages and Literature at the University of Auckland. He is an expert in critical theory and semiotics.

He actually means, meaning is context-dependent. And context is the mutual intelligebility between individuals => unless there is a common social similar background knowledge, meaning cannot be conveyed.

Knowing things and knowing to teach things are two different things. And this professor doesn't know to teach.

But, if you make context so dynamic with situational relativity and ever changing; and also, taking into account the history, the environment scopes.. It will require a very dynamic normalization considering all these perspectives in real-time for people to process. That can be very dangerous if interpreted wrongly in a given sense of time, human psychological state, human retention state, situational awareness discrepancies and knowledge base and foundations of an individual. I find that extremely dangerous if the words are spoken fast, words with rhetorical gestures, non-linearity of sequential statements to the flow of actions or behavior being stated or described. The fact of reality is that artificial statements can be convolutional if spoken in business or scientific terms but, the behaviour or procedural statements will never change for a given set of action, no matter how you change their context for different perspectives used essentially for information hiding while speaking or interpreting anything. That can give people a state of mental fantasy or illusion that can be vague and end up in an abstract sense very very badly. How do you solve this for everyone in one go on universal level when it comes to knowledge delivery??

It’s funny when they try to define it, it’s a bunch of word salad that never really leads to a definitive explanation. The English language, oh so pretentious. If you look up the definition there are countless ideas that make little sense. How could context mean so many different things, because it’s the English language that why.
