A violent fire ravaged the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses church in Trois-Rivières in Quebec, Canada, on October 3 afternoon. The wind and the age of the structure dating from 1913-1914 are believed to have accelerated the spread of the flames. In a matter of minutes, the fire turned into a general blaze. It was around 2 p.m. that a passerby called the authorities because he had noticed flames in the church at the corner of rue Saint-François Xavier and Boulevard du Saint-Maurice.

Ten years ago, I lived near by this catholic church. Since the 1950 and the "tranquille revolution" in Québec the practice of catholicism have known a major decline. This building was in a state of renovation to make apartments in a very old and poor neighborhood of downtown Trois-Rivières (99% french canadian). Even if I not catholic, I am sad that we are losing our historical heritage. Many of these buildings have been restore for other purposes and usages, or are simply demolished.

Shalom from Trois-Rivières, Québec!
