The celebrated artist, known for her holiday classic 'All I Want for Christmas Is You,' made her announcement on Monday, expressing gratitude to her fans for their 'love and support.' In an interview, the 55-year-old stated, 'My heart is shattered that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Tragically, my sister also lost her life on that same day.' She added, 'I feel grateful that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she departed,' and concluded, 'I appreciate everyone's love, support, and respect for my privacy during this incredibly difficult time.' Mariah did not share further information about the causes of death for either of her family members. Sources indicate that Alison had been in home hospice care just prior to her passing, with reports noting that she had been receiving care 'for the last three weeks of her life.' Close friend Dave Baker shared that Alison had been dealing with 'a problem with her internal organs.' He paid homage to his friend, stating, 'Beneath a tough exterior, Alison was a deeply intelligent, warm, and sensitive individual. Over the past nine years as her friend and caregiver in recent months, I will miss her immensely. Farewell, Alison. May you now find peace, free from earthly struggles.' It is known that Carey's relationship with Alison, who was 63, had its difficulties, as her sister had faced homelessness and numerous personal struggles throughout her life. In her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer expressed that it was 'emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact' with both Alison and her brother, Morgan. The singer has previously addressed her complex relationship with her mother as well. In her autobiography, she noted, 'Like many elements of my life, my journey with my mother has included contradictions and conflicting realities. It has never been simply black and white - it's a spectrum of emotions. Our relationship includes a mix of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.' Even with these challenges, they shared a memorable moment in 2010 when they performed a duet of 'O Come All Ye Faithful' on ABC's Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You. Patricia, who divorced Mariah's father, Alfred Roy Carey, in 1973, was a talented opera singer and vocal instructor. As of now, Carey has not shared anything on her social media about the passing of her mother and sister, opting to grieve in private.
