The Three Biggest Ideas in Animation

Welcome to Animation for Anyone. In our second class I'll explain the three biggest ideas in Animation and how they can help you use all the other principles more easily. Hope you enjoy!

Also a small correction, I incorrectly named the producer of the example film Lost and Found as Lucy Haynes when in fact her name is Lucy Hayes. Apologies about that, and thanks again to the team for letting me share their work here.

Wow, you are the modern day GOAT of animation. I heard your name for years, so many people learned to animate in Photoshop from you. And now, the world has access to an amazing curriculum to get into animation. Thank you!

I teach an introductory animation class and have always wanted to make a freely available version... glad you're already doing that for me! This is absolutely where I'd try and start (and constantly return to) with my students.

I'm always tempted to adjust the spacing between the frames, but this is a great reminder of how to prioritise

Love this series! hoping to see more in the future for sure. Alex Grigg thank you for putting these up and producing this. I will be able to share it with my team as well as we are a young animation studio just starting out. Cheers!

This is incredible, any other animation introduction I’ve seen always goes straight into all the stuff like appeal and squash and stretch, I’m a person who likes to learn by getting in and toying around and it’s always just been overwhelming, but this seems way more manageable.

Your videos are really precious, I’ve been practicing animation for around 2 years now and your summary really helps me fine tune the process and simplify everything down, thank you so so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

These fundamentals like timing and spacing are the hardest to understand and practice for me and I usually forget the posing step. Your explaination and application methods are super useful for us beginners! You are awesome! I wish you the bestest of the bests!

i love this channel
its so nice having someone explaining it to you at a pace where it feels like a conversation, plus the structure of examples and the “work together” portions are perfect

Henrique Barone said in one of his classes, "Timing is when it happens and Spacing is where it happens. Timing describes 'what' is happening and spacing describes 'how' it's happening."

I'm slowing trying to find my way back into animation and I'm intimidated and excited at the same time. Its magical and that's why it's so terrifying. This helps A LOTTT. Nothing has to happen to move me to animate, I can just animate a line and call it a day. Thanks Alex!

You know you've got animation figured out when even your example of poor spacing is appealing. :P Good stuff, Alex!
