The troop was initially dominated by alpha males who controlled access to food resources. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred when the baboons encountered a dumpster filled with tainted food. The alphas, who had first access to the food, consumed it and tragically died as a result.

Actually, the specific troop that this happened to did not return to having hyper aggressive alpha males in their troop. They recorded many alpha male baboons trying to join the troop and they were rejected. Their social hierarchy is to this day entirely unique and the study was on stress hormones in lower tier baboons, all of their stress hormones are significantly reduced without the alphas.

Currently the baboons are like "Man, i miss those good old days. No alphas. Everyone was chill. You could find your mate peacefully. I miss it so hard."

I remember reading about that in 2015 as far as I remember that troop still has a unique social system

They have also learned the use of plastic grocery bags. When they are at the dump/tip site and they find more enough food, they will literally use bags to carry the extra food back to wherever they spend the rest of their day.

What this doesn't show is the the increase fertility, longer lifespan and increased playfully and mood of the entire group.
