Leaving Cert Maths 2021: How many Questions Should I Do?

With the leaving cert exams starting this week I want to go through the structure of the leaving cert maths paper for higher level and ordinary level. I will also give my recommendation for how many questions to answer on the leaving cert maths exam.
In both higher level and ordinary level maths you have 2 sections.
In section A you are required to answer 4 out of 6 questions.
In section B you are required to answer 2 out of 4 questions.

My recommendation is that you answer 5 out of 6 in section A and 3 out of 4 in section B. That is one extra question in each section. This gives you 150 marks in each section for 300 marks total. That means you can use the 2 marks per minute rule: 15 minutes for a section A question and 25 minutes for a section B question.

I do not recommend that you do all questions as it will result in unnecessary time pressure.

Thanks for watching folks. Remember these are my recommendations for the paper, if your teacher is recommending something different for you then go with them as they know you better than I do!!!

If we do more than 4 questions in section A and more than 2 in section B. Will the examiner count our best 4 in section A and best 2 in section B? And is the exam still going to be out of 220 marks if we do more questions? Thanks!
