This was written by Philip Glass for Koyaanisqatsi (1982), a film that basically takes that feeling you get from watching the Dr. Manhattan scenes and expands it to a whole movie.

Doctor Manhattan's facial expression here while sitting alone on Mars captures his character perfectly; With unfathomable knowledge and power, comes unfathomable boredom and isolation. I feel bad for him. He’s such a lonely god.

Dr. Manhattan is the universe, conscious of itself. Lonely and immortal, he learns the importance of the randomness inherent within life (when he takes what's-her-face to mars, in the movie). He then decides to create life that he doesn't have control over, so he can finally feel the connection and love that he desperately yearns for. That connection is only possible when he let's go of the awareness of his own power

Alan Moore capture how alienating and isolating it would be to have more power than anyone or anything in existence. More importantly what it would be like if everyone knew you had that kind of power. There would be be mass hysteria to say the least if such a person existed in the real world. Btw Snyder's choice of music for the Manhattan parts was amazing. Because of this movie I've listen to a few of Philip Glass albums.

This song is a full time paradox to me.
I first heard this song at Watchmen movie.
I loved Dr Manhattan and this song.
I though that the sad parts of it would be better together and the ending, more long..
So i downloaded, cutted and pasted the parts being just the Sad and chill...
Years later, a few weeks ago, in the radio I heard another version of that song, the epic part was not being played and the sad ending was longer, just like i edited it..
It ended being the original song from the 1982 melody from the movie KoiaNitasky or Something like that... The title is just Prophecies...
I made a edition in the 2010s of a melody that was a myx and the original was exactly as i wished the song to be... And done in 1982..its literally a Time Travel song.. Prophecies is just the perfect title.. Like Philip Glass knew propheticly that I was gonna do that song after someone mixed it for another movie.
Whats more... Dr. Manhattan in the movie, his father was a clockmaker and his Sad story is related to the time being relative.... Man... Thats is why I love that melody so much.
