Print Book Preorders: I use these companies as a self-published author to set up preorders for print

Print preorders are unfortunately not as easy to set up as ebook preorders for indie authors, so in this video I wanted to share the two main places where I put my paperbacks and hardcovers up for preorder as well as some other helpful info!

Hi Bethany. I have worked with Barnes & Noble a lot. Their print quality is better than KDP, but Barnes and Noble take forever to release books. I don't use them much because print dates and time are really up to them so, one can get lost in the madness of when will the book be released. Good luck!

Question concerning series: would you worry about doing preorders for second or third books in a series? My biggest thought with preorders would be those impulse purchases and captive audience, but do you find that matters as much with other books in a series? Hope your release day was splendid!

I did use D2D for my print & pre-order print. It looks more confusing than it actually is. It's not super if you don't know what you're doing for front matter and back matter. But! I've seen similar with other print on demand with writers who don't have experience with front/back matter. And a bit of fidgeting with the back blurb.

All in all, i did like the final result (as an amateur). Nice material used, very bendy paperback, smelled good (i might be the only weirdo who cares what my books smell like, but i'm gonna just leave that)

Hi! I am publishing my first book, and I thought one of your videos said if I wanted to do a contest for those who preorder, I could. I am not sure how to get the names of those people though. When people preorder my book on Amazon, will I be able to see who? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Bethany. Thanks for all these amazing videos. They are a great help.
I have a question about setting up pre-orders for both eBooks and print books. I assume that in the past you have set up a pre-order before a manuscript was ready for readers (in my case it is unedited). How did you deal with amazon's Look Inside This Book and the general preview that booksellers make available to potential buyers?

Good information. Question, did you have to ship the books yourself from your garage, or did IngramSparks print and ship via print-on-demand?

D2D offers wide print. I use them and they are fabulous in my opinion. I dont think they do preorders though for print

I see options to preorder books on Amazon all the time from established published authors. Is it that indie authors/self-published books aren’t given this option?

QUESTION: Thanks so much for the video. You are one of my fave authors to learn from. I just uploaded my first preorder with Ingram. I was under the impression you were supposed to enable distribution so that pre-orders could begin while you get your proof copies and make revisions so that you could eventually upload the final versions that will be shipped out. I'm still 2 months away from release. Is that the process you followed and would recommend? I'm getting nervous because I've read that sometimes Ingram prints early and prints the files that were your rough draft files.... which in my case are blank. What are your thoughts?

What size is the print copy of the secret gift? It looks like a 5x8 but it might also be 5.25x8. I'm asking because I'm getting ready to publish my second book this coming spring.

I honestly feel a bit overwhelming between print copies and eBooks simply because I don't know what would be best for my superhero book it's already as an eBook but do, I also choose print copies? 😅 but is Barnes and Nobles that good? I live in Canada and my availability for my eBook is on Amazon and Kobo/Chapters though I do want more options for my eBook even though on Kobo/Amazon, it's internationally available. Would you recommend Barnes and Nobles? Can you do a video on how to make a release date? I still find that confusing since so far, I had to change my release date for my sequel once and I might have to do it again...😅

Brilliant video 😀 I just set up my new book for Draft2Digital Print preorder. The print version is great and sell to the same places as Ingram (B&N / Waterstones) I spent a lot for advertising on Ingram but haven’t had any interest so have left them. I love preorders as a reader but not had that many for my own books (though I only have 2 so far!)

preorders matter A LOT to me with my traditionally published books, and the publishers who publish my books. When I indie release a book pre-orders matter a lot less
