1 tbsp= 15ml, 1/2 tbsp= 7.5ml, 1/2 tsp= 2.5ml, 1 tsp= 5ml, 1/4 tsp= 1.25ml, 1 cup= 250ml, 1/2 cup= 125ml,

Goan Mutton Xacuti

800g mutton pieces -bone in (curry cut)

Ingredients required for mutton marinade
1/2” ginger piece
3 green chillies
3-4 garlic cloves
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste

Ingredients required for Xacuti Masala
2 Kashmiri chillies
10 small dried chillies (local variety for authentic taste)
1 star anise
Half Nutmeg piece
5 cloves
8 peppercorns
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1 & 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
2 black cardamom or green cardamom
1” cinnamon stick
1 mace flower or 1/4 tsp mace powder (whole mace flower must be roasted along with other spices but if you’re using powder then add last & turn off the flame)
1 tsp poppy seeds (I used sesame)
1 cup fresh coconut
1 medium onion (roughly chopped)
1 garlic clove
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Coconut oil
Water as required (I used 1 cup)

Other Ingredients required
2 medium onions
1 small tomato (optional)
1-2 potatoes (cut into 8 pieces)
1 tbsp tamarind pulp (can be added while grinding the masala)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup coconut milk
Chopped cilantro for garnishing
Salt to taste
