I dropped Facebook over 2 years ago. Too much misinformation and basically a data mining platform to sell data for target marketing

People need to understand that we don’t use Facebook, Facebook uses us.

We can't even begin to describe the mental health problems facebook might have caused for people and especially teenagers.

I don't think it makes sense to ask a private company to censor speech. Freedom of speech isn't for speech we agree with but for speech we disagree with. Of course doxing, direct threats of violence and speech which isn't protected by the 1st amendment should be removed but hate speech and "problematic speech" are different. They are inherently subjective. With allowing censorship, we risk being censored for expressing non conforming views. If the Iraq invasion after 9/11 was to happen in a setting where social media companies censor hate speech and "problematic speech", is it even a question that those who speak up against the false narrative the govt was peddling would be censored? I don't think so.
It's about how much of your freedom do you want to give up for security. It has always been a messy thing. If we want a liberal democracy then it is an essential pillar to have. I never generally post comments but i thought this was important.
Nonetheless, great video Caya.

I stopped FB when I heard they were going to allow blatantly false, lying political ads on their platform. Essentially, making money for spreading lies. Disgusting.

I feel Facebook is filled more with loathe than love lately!

But seriously thanks for the quality explanation. Didn't know Microsoft had made an offer.

Once I started working in IT security, I immediately deleted my Facebook.

It was pretty clear to me why these tech giants wanted my info - they can use it to piece together a nearly complete profile on me, and sell that info to anyone who wants it.

You truly are the product that Facebook produces and sells.

Few corporate drops of fb ad $18mm is like a drop in the ocean of fb ad revenue. fb will acquire 95% of all ads (online and off line), if excluding Google and Youtube.

is ok for companies dictate what can be and cannot be seen? with their money? I totally support facebook here taking an economic hit and resisting being told what to publish and what not.
