EMRIP side event on ‘The rights of Indigenous women and girls – perspectives from Australia, Canada and New Zealand’.

Australia, Canada and New Zealand share similar experiences of colonialism, and are all actively striving for truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Hear from the National Human Rights Institutions from each of these three countries for a 1.5-hour event on the margins of the 14th Session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which took place on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

Speakers:

* June Oscar, AO, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner with the Australian Human Rights Commission
* Qajaq Robinson, Former Commissioner with Canada's National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
* Judge Sarah Reeves, who is currently the presiding officer of the Mana Wāhine Inquiry
* New Zealand's Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner, Saunoamaali’i Karanina Sumeo
* Opening remarks will be provided by Marie-Claude Landry, Ad. E., Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and closing remarks by Rosalind Croucher, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission.
