Myth as History: Rohl's New Chronology

preview_player
Показать описание
In one fell swoop, Egyptologist David Rohl has posited a change in Egyptian chronology that takes both Greek mythical history and the stories of the Bible out of idle lore and into historical plausibility.

By cutting and rearranging some 300 years of "dark ages," Rohl suggests that there is no gap between the legendary times of the Trojan War and the later historical Dorian Invasion. He also posits that very specific Biblical stories, such as the sojourn in Egypt, Exodus, the conquest of Canaan and the Kingdom of Israel have ample historical evidence if we start looking in Egypt's Middle Kingdom Period.

Please don't make shorter episodes. The thing I value about this podcast, and I strongly suspect the thing most people that enjoy it value about it, is that it goes in depth. A 10 minute video on a topic isn't notrelated, it's just your youtube channel but syndicated to podcast apps.

1 min in, but I've been saying this for years. Never thought there'd be books about that to substantiate the viewpoint more academically. Thanks for sharing this with us, Luke.

A Polynesian tribe had a myth that described a land beyond with unique animals and geography. As it turns out, this land did exist, but fell beneath the sea when at the end of the ice age. These people arrived at their home during the ice age, but when the landscape of their home was hid beneath he sea, the geography was saved in their myths which were thought to be fanciful until it was found that this land was indeed real, pushing the dates of human habitation in that land further back than taught. I haven’t seem the full vid yet, but i assume it the podcast will talk about similar themes about myth and revised chronology.

Institutionalized science is based on the peer review process. Peer review process decides which research gets funded. It is essentially social phenomenon. You need not publish what is true but what gets you good reputation with the community. There is no correction mechanism, like "if you continue to produce useless results you get no customers". It's arbitrary.

Luke truly is a boomer, he thinks he needs to explain to us that he's going to edit out his break from recording

To push back, one of the reasons Exodus is placed during the Rameses the Great's reign is the timing of the first mention of Jerusalem, which happens soon thereafter. It doesn't disprove that Exodus could have happened earlier, but there's at least some weight on the idea that a city would have been mentioned earlier if it had existed for so long

I think you would be interested in Heidegger's Being and Time. He argues that medieval people, roughly before Descartes started asking questions, and created modern philosophy, had a different relationship to being and time because they believe in God and were waiting for the second coming of Christ, so time had a sort of linear progression from the birth and death of Christ to his second coming. He thought that these people lived more authentically and were "in the world" more fully because they had this mindset. His goal was to get back to this state where "thought was once again possible" and Nietzsche's lastmen wouldn't dominate the earth.

As a side-note, I am very interested on your opinion of Schopenhauer, I think his books World as Will and Representation would really make you think...

I really enjoy those theories that change our perception but do not change the world. Good content as usual.

I'd prefer the longer style episodes, but if shorter episodes means we actually get those episodes, I won't complain. With that said, I had a choice I'd definitely prefer long.

You need to check out Randall Carlson, man. The guy like these kind of stuff too and he did his own research on mostly Cataclysm events that happened in the ancient times, Younger Dryas Impact is his most focused field. He may be not an academic Geologist per se but he's definitely up there with the experts. He also talks about Atlantis, symbolism, sacred geometry, mysticism, etc. So he's definitely worth checking out. His channel is The Randall Carlson.
