Justice for disabled elders in America is a SICK GIGANTIC JOKE. I'm now 75+, had a disability all my adult life which caused me to be denied military service & live alone. I've reported elder crimes for 5+ years including multiple felonies by a confidence guy from Portland Oregon who admits in writing he's known I'm disabled, dealing with serious life threatening health issues, old & live alone ...yet he not only stripped me of whatever he could get his hands on while I was laying on an ER gurney... he then did all he could to trip me up in his revenge making my life a living hell because others demanded accountability & reprimanded him for his abuse, fraud and manipulation of a sick elder authorities do NOTHING after being repeatedly told of this con-artist caused my Soc. Sec funds to be blocked, missing Soc. Sec under his control or direction, his Postal Fraud, his attempted extortion, his abuse, manipulation of a sick elder for his personal agenda, Class "C" grand larceny theft of my property, neglect, & scams. Far wonder, Oregon is now the worse state for any elder to even pass through even with documented proof, this guy laughs all the way to my bank and controls. Elders get no holidays nor coffee break from abuse, manipulations & fraud ...we live with it 24/7 ..365

JUSTICE DELAYED ...IS JUSTICE DENIED EVEN MORE SO FOR THE ELDERLY.... IT'S CRUEL TORTURE.

Please, don't just say how bad it is ALL elders real help NOW JUSTICE NOW !!!! ...before these con-artist kill us off. God will bless you for indicting these creeps as that IS the only way to halt elder exploitation.

This is also the most I've seen anyone cover the matter of failing reason, where the patient's personality changes and judgment are shifting and unreliable. This has been a huge problem of late, and people on the outside look at it like "Well, she's an ADULT and can do what she likes" with a total lack of understanding of what her status is now. But yes, the fraudsters and the tendency to glom onto strangers as "my new best friend!" is disturbing.

My mother's doctor will not speak with me over the phone, even though she'd signed the piece of paper allowing him to do so ages ago. He will ONLY speak to me at a scheduled appointment, with her present. Well, that's more than a little difficult, and she won't tell anyone the truth about what's happening. But the idea that a doctor COULD be a helpful partner in managing one's loved one is great.

Thanks for all the info: It's been difficult to determine the difference in these various decisions. These decisions change regularly, and trying to guess what you might need (and when) is a real crapshoot...especially when you're dealing with a defiant patient. 'Twilight Zone' is a good descriptor, especially as relates to dementia: The overall disease has a trajectory much like the daily pattern, wherein the patient starts worsening (sun-downing) at twilight time.

Omg this is happening to me. My mother gets manipulated by strangers and no longer trusts me. She is going to make one of these manipulators her agent and this person has also manipulated my mother’s elder lawyer. Oh well. There is nothing I can do.

I doubt that I’ll get this question answered but sir what do you do when your other parent is preventing you from getting the parent with what you believe to be dementia any actual treatment and is avoiding telling doctors what is going on

The knowledge presented is much better than the presenter himself. All of his "um, uhs" make me reconsider his clout, but the information seems succinct, but his presentation is poor. Perhaps he's brilliant in what he does and is just a bit nervous to be on the record. Still, I will share with family members who could benefit from his resources.
