I believe a big reason China keeps winning Olympic bids is because they're one of the only countries still seriously bidding. Most western countries have realized that hosting the Olympics just really isn't worth the effort. I believe for this year it was between China and Kazakhstan, because now it's really just the more authoritarian countries that are trying to prove something who care about hosting the Olympics, even at a financial loss.

I was told a story about a japanese figure skater who participated in the games once, either it was a ice skating competition or the actual olympics I'm not sure. She did very well, scored the highest points among all the contestants. But just as she was supposed to be awarded, the judges, all under the thumb of the CCP disqualified her because 'her skating outfit was too loose'. When people checked this later, her outfit was only slightly loose, creasing in places but it wasn't enough to warrant disqualification. Poor girl cried her eyes out on tv and was humiliated.
They did it on purpose, they waited until she was close to winning before deciding to put this crapshow on with her on the chopping block. That's just how they operate. This must have been a while ago, and now it seems they are only getting worse and worse. Dangerous even, I hate them. I hate what they did to my home, to Hong Kong. I'm not allowed to go back, my mother worries I'll just stir up trouble by being too outspoken.

I've got to say it's very funny that we had the 2020 summer olympics in Japan postponed to 2021. We have it fresh in our minds and it's very clear the stark contrast between an actually modern country like Japan and a country like China.

I personally think it's disgusting how Taiwan isn't allowed to make clear it's true identity and presence as a free and independent republic, even for something that shouldn't even be political like the olympics. Last week I went to the coffeeshop to buy weed (Netherlands). Saw the Olympics and I saw empty stadiums and literally laughed out loud mids among all the other people there. I didn't even remember that the Olympics were going, that much I gave a crap about it this year. Then went on buying weed while mumbling: I hope they will get some change soon.
