John Company: Second Edition - 1758 Scenario - Solo Playthrough [Dev Rules]

This is a playthrough of the 1758 scenario for John Company: Second Edition via Tabletop Simulator.

Several corrections to mistakes I made in my previous game have been addressed, and I try real hard to not make any new ones here. There are a couple times I make a judgement based off of conversations had in the discord for this game's development that aren't addressed in the handbook. If these end up being wrong, I'll address them later.

There might also be a thing or two I act like isn't in the handbook, but if I'd just shut up and read the damn thing it's clearly there (like Crown Extra Actions during Family Phase). My bad.

Apologies if audio is a bit low at times.

GREAT STUFF! I enjoyed the decision around 'Public Demands Impeachment', which seemed like a pivotal point in the game. You had a good bank roll and could have used it to sway shipping a bit more perhaps. She sucked you in to giving her lots of offices and then Peacock pulled the company down whilst she was ahead, and those dice really helped! Great demo and it showed the many brilliant sides of John Company :)

14:38 yep, you got it spot on. Workshop first as free action, then luxury then officer, rather than two workshops and luxury.

this was great fun - even if your hopes were repeatedly dashed. Really impressed with how Ricky's Crown handles the complexities and nuances of this marvelous game, being relatively easy to play and still wickedly difficult to beat

36:54 you are president, so you could have chosen not to give consent and thus prevented the LA purchase. Also, given that you gave consent (unwittingly) this earned you a promise token.

1:08:25 that's right; you are a "player" and your family member was eligible for hire, so you get the +1 promise for not seeking nepotism and instead recruiting Crown. I've asked Drew to reword this to make it clear that "player" means you yourself as well as another player.

1:22:38 haha. Yup. At this point with peacock-peacock-peacock, Crown was pretty much intent on bringing the company down and not helping out at all with trade and the company balance sheet. It was a pretty blatant strategy for her. I like that you spotted this and realised you had to use your own bankroll to get company income.

17:50 yup, the region icons are given by the Control Tokens in each region; they are small, but that's the [only] place you can find them now, rather than printed on the board.

1:24:58 it was definitely the (and because DoT messed things up by moving ships out of Madras).. but mostly the dice :D :D

49:24 I've put a comment in to say do it first, when Crown is PM, so it is less easy to forget.

33:20 rulebook mistake; Peacock should be same as Bear. I've added a comment to the rulebook to fix!

1:02:22 actually, there are only 3.. you forgot to remove the Governor. Not sure what to do to help here... this is not really a solo rules problem.

1:19:50 the officer assignment part is not quite right. It should be one in Bengal and one in Bombay, but you put two in Madras. She starts at the top of the list and finds candidate regions, so you did this part right, and saw that step 1 asks that she places a piece where it creates a Crown majority [of pieces]; this is only Bengal: in Bombay and Madras she already has a majority of pieces, so placing here will not CREATE a majority; only placing in Bengal will CREATE a majority. Then for the 2nd assignment, none of them create a new majority, so she moves to step 2. If step 2 doesn't help pick an army (which it won't, as there is no player majority in an army), she looks to step 3 and looks for a Crown majority - this is all three armies - so this doesn't help either - so skips to step 4, and looks for a presidency where she is governor; again, no help; on to step 5: where she is commander: okay, this helps: this gives us just Bombay and Madras, so now we need to decide between them, so look to step 6 to help: it says, "a crown presidency": okay, this is our final step: Bombay is Crown, Madras is yours, so she chooses Bombay for the 2nd assignment.

1:12:26 nice tune. Lyrics could use some work, but good tone.

About 59:40 you deducted 12 monies rather than 8. She should have 4 more monies. I assume you pay what is on the retirement.
