Sony Xperia 1 VI Big Changes! I'm Not Happy!

It looks like Sony is going to change the screen size and resolution on the Sony Xperia 1 VI from a 4K screen to a 2K screen, and change the aspect ratio from 21:9 to 19:5:9, getting rid of the iconic Xperia 1 series screen and form factor, and I'm not happy about it!

I'll definitely miss the 21:9 screen. Seems like Sony is throwing their identity out the door. Soon they'll have a piece of the screen missing to house a selfie camera (that I never use).

None of these changes are an issue for me. They are keeping the most important things that are still missing from 100% of competing flagships.

I will miss the slim aspect ratio. I've actually come to love it. Won't miss 4k too much but for the love of God sony.... Don't lose the external storage, phone jack and don't add the dreaded notch on the screen.

They should split the difference and go 20:9 like the S21 series was, loved that aspect ratio. Not too narrow, not to tall.

I want to like 21:9 and I also want to like SONY, but I end up using the S24 Ultra, so I guess I prefer wider.

I would have a bigger problem with the phone being physically wider when held in portrait than anything else. The resolution isn't so much an issue for me since in my experience, , the 4K panels in these Sony phones have been a total failure. All of them that I have gone through (4 different units of the 1 IV) developed an issue where they have terrible colors at low brightness and a green tint. I would take a phone with a 2K screen without the defects, with great, vivid colors like a Samsung phone over the 4K panels they have been using. But I would want it in 21:9. A wider phone would be a dealbreaker.

I want longer support for these phones....

21:9 was too tall in my opinion and 4k on a 6" display was an overkill so i m fine with it as long as they still keep audio jack, sd card and reintroduce a good DAC like LG phones. One good battery life management, 4/5 years of OS and security support and we re good to go for a looonng time

Generally people aren’t going to notice the difference between 1440 & 2160p on a phone. I’m also thinking about getting a Sony phone, just don’t know what model yet.

2k vs 4k on such small screen you will never notice difference, but battery will be positively impacted for sure. I'm actually would like my xperia 1 V to be a little bit wider (not as s24 Ultra) but a little bit at least. What I would also appreciate is better optimization of interface and apps, to be more smooth. And please bring EIS and OIS stabilization for 4k60 !!!

I prefer 21:9. Combine with the expandable mSD slot with a card and you are set for a lot of classic movies without cropping. I'd like the 48MP across the board for videos but it's not a deal breaker to stick on the 1 V. Especially if I'm shooting in the Cinema Pro App with 21:9; reviewing without it shrinking is nice. Thinking I'd only upgrade if a new Pro-I comes out for the bigger sensor, hopefully in the 21:9.

These leaks are what’s making me wait to switch back to android. I just don’t want a Samsung and I love Sony but I really don’t like the 21:9 at all. I had an Xperia 1 III a while back and I loved everything except that aspect ratio. The phone was incredible other than that for me. So I’m super excited to find a happy medium. I just want an alternative to Apple or Samsung so bad that’s actually as good as they are

21:9 was a fantastic aspect ratio. Loved it, although I had a n Xperia 5 iii. Moving from that form factor to straight 19.5:9 is odd. They should have gone for 20:9 at least. In any case, a price drop is very necessary.

I love the 4k 21:9 aspect ratio on sony flagship phones but I wish there was 2 display options, 1 version with oled and 1 version with mini led. Every oled device that I use already have burn in issues. The oled displays have gotten dimmer overtime, the white colors turn yellowish similar to clear cell phone case that turns yellowish, the on screen keyboard shows as part of burn in and the 3 button navigation that I still use are part of burn in as well. Even with a black background, burn in is very noticeable and obvious looking. I wish sony used a hifi dac from ess or from burr brown instead of the regular dac from qualcomm that comes with the phone and sony could come out with newer model of wired audiophile headphones since they acquired audeze the audiophile company. Since lg stops making phones, they had hifi dacs for audiophile headphones and in ear monitors since they were aimed towards audiophiles. Sony could do something similar to what lg was doing when lg was making phones since they acquired a hifi company. There are audiophile brands that even run android on there devices like from fiio and shangling etc.

100 percent agree they need to be at Best Buy. i went to 2 Best Buys trying to see if I physically feel one and try it out because i have small hands. Unfortunately I may be forced to go with a base S24

I won't upgrade for the screen, I will upgrade for the camera, any change for that aspect?

they should add gestures on the side fingerprint scanner so you can slide down your notifications with it, like on the s10e. probably the greatest phone feature ive seen in years

Surprises me you wouldn't prefer the wider screen as only the other day you were commenting that the zfold was too narrow. I also have small hands but I never operate one handed so other than appearance really wouldn't make any difference to.
Just a note you have cost me again; after watching your 5pro watch video I had to have one. Was $199.00 at Best Buy so seemed like good deal. Enjoy your content.

Is Sony Xperia display the highest resolution (4k) on any smartphone on the market now? If so why is it the only one?
