Korshøj Jættestue / Passage Grave
Показать описание
Korshøj on the outskirts of the village of Ubby contains – like most other burial mounds – burials from several ancient periods. Originally, the mound was built over a double passage grave from the Peasant Stone Age. Later, probably in the early Bronze Age, a 2 m long stone coffin was built at the top of the mound. An urn with fine bronze objects, which was buried in the mound, dates from the Younger Bronze Age. And probably Korshøj contains even more graves. The largest of the passage grave's two combined chambers has been known since the 1840s, when the local parish priest excavated it and found a large number of flint and bone tools, pottery shards, beads of amber and animal teeth, as well as approx. 50 human skeletons. The second and somewhat smaller chamber was first discovered in 1903 and was examined in 1939 by the later royal antiquarian P.V. Glob. Also here, rich finds and important observations were made, because the burial chamber had been untouched since ancient times.
