This Jazz Piano Tutorial is about Polychords.

A polychord is, as the name implies, two or more chords superimposed on top of each other. It’s written as two chords, one on top of the other, separated by a horizontal line.

There are two ways of thinking about polychords:
- You can about a polychord as a single entity or single chord.
- Or you can think about it as two separate entities or chords – and so creating a kind of polytonality.

This theory opens so many options for arranging and composing.
To me it is like a new world in music. For instance; building whole melodies
on that, while keeping away from the Rootchord.
.
And that brings me to the question .... When communicating with other musicians;...
how do you r e f e r to the 2 options in a polychord???
- The root-chord & the upperchord?
- Or the tonic and the add-chord? Or the top-chord?
What are they called?
.
Cos with the slashchord that is way more easy. Here in Holland we call that C, bass A.
or Cmajor bass A.
.
Thanks for this, thumbs up + subscribed.
