A year on since Hamas launched an attack on Israel, former Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy joins deputy editor Freddy Gray to reflect on what has happened since 2023. With war now raging on multiple fronts, they discuss whether Israel has been neglected by its international allies, and how the involvement of Iran is changing the landscape.

If Israel had ever fulfilled its part of the deal in the Balfour agreement ww wouldn't be in this mess.
Perhaps it would be better if there were no Israel and Israelites has to get on with their neighbours.

Levy was described (rightfully ) as a sociopath . I would use stronger words myself .

it'd be interesting to ask how Israel would deal with this situation in the event the West wasn't there acting like Israel's Big Brother securing Israel's back

This is poor journalism for me. Just a platform for an Israeli spokesperson to state his case.
Where were the challenges to his statements?
We all have to grow a backbone? What and let an entire people be dehumanised in this way until they are utterly destroyed and removed from land Isreal would like.
Disappointed with the Spectator here.
I don’t think I can even listen to this to the end. It’s just a speech of propaganda with no challenge.

I live in Australia, a liberal democracy created through the displacement and dispossession of indigenous people by people from around the world. I'm solidly with Israel but virtually none of my friends and relations are. I feel no guilt for being a colonist who moved to Australia for lifestyle reasons, not to escape murderous fascists. My antizionist Anglo friends and relations claim to feel intense guilt for being colonists (though their guilt will never prompt them to move "home"). It's so utterly cheap and disgusting that they would assuage their guilt by denying the legitimacy of Israel as a state and by telling the grandchildren and great grandchildren of Holocaust survivors Australia didn't protect (Australia took in just 8, 200 Jews between January 1933 and December 1946) that they're not entitled to defend themselves. Equally bizarre is the response of my antizionist Pakistani friends whose homeland was built by the movement of Indian Muslims to cities like Karachi (50 per cent Hindu in 1947, 0.86 per cent Hindu now). Antizionism IS antisemitism and my patience with antisemitism is at an end. If you're an Australian reading this, put the antisemitic Greens last whenever you vote and don't just be a bystander.

From what I gather, Israeli leadership was funding Hamas leading up the attack. And so, Israel was not expecting the attack.

On your podcast you ask “How far will Israel go in its revenge for Oct 7th?”. Which is phasing the question in biased fashion. Should be “How far will Israel go in seeking the long term peace and safety of its citizens?”
