BREAKING (and additional info on the subject of this episode): The Department of Defense has now announced that the Secretary of Defense has directed BATAAN and CARTER HALL with 26th MEU/SOC aboard to move back into the Sixth Fleet AOR and rejoin with the third ship in the ARG, MESA VERDE. So now there'll be two CSGs (FORD and IKE) and a full ARG in the eastern Med.

I was on the USS Nassau LHA-4, she was an old girl but the things she was capable of were really amazing. We close enough to a beach to hear people talking, it was wild

My son is a Seabee lieutenant attached to the 26th MEU on the Mesa Verde. Thank you so much for providing this information! The ship has, as expected, gone dark for now and we're anxious to know what's going on.

During peacetime its easy to be frustrated by the navy's poor acquisitions strategy, mantinance backlogs and management. But it is truely incredible how much firepower they can bring to bear on short notice during times of need.

I helped build 5 amphibious assault ships LHD'S, including The Bataan, at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula Mississippi. So proud.

As a former shipbuilder I worked on Carriers, LHD's, LHA's, Destroyers, LCS-es, and LCAC's! Excellent video!

The Bataan was my first ship and I was on her maiden Deployment. We were even able to make a port visit in Haifa. Our daughter is on the Gravely for her second deployment. Though both ships will possibly sail the same waters, the world is very different.

Excellent summary! One quibble...Brown Water Navy generally applies to the Riverine Forces now primarily SWCC. Amphibious ships are generally referred to as the Gator Navy much as the Surface Combatant fleet are the Tin Can Navy. Incidentally, 26 MEU(SOC) was of great assistance in the later stages of the USS Cole recovery.

While I spent most of my time on America (CV-66 not LHA-6) Enterprise, and Ranger, my last two active duty deployments were on Essex (with the 11th and 15th MEU's) Those two floats on Essex were a good experience. As a Tech Rep, I also took the 22 MEU into Kandahar (from Wasp) along with deployments on Vinson, Ike, TR, Enterprise and HST. The ARG deployments can be somewhat ad-hoc and subject to change. Semper Gumby was the catchphrase (Always Flexible!)

Proud Gator Navy sailor.Served on a Newport class LST. We were looked down on from other sailors but we were hard working and very versatile. So glad I wasn’t on a FF or DD. 💪🏼⚓️🐊🇺🇸

Thank you. I made the Med cruise in 1962, with my Marine BLT as a member of Phibron 6. I never knew what other ships, other than our APA-36, were out there. We did one multi-national landing, but never knew what was around us. Now I know what the Marines do currently, in the Med.

Thank you so much for this briefing.

Proud of all of the people serving on those ships! May their presence be deterrent enough, and may they return home safe and unharmed if it isn't!

Thanks for that Ward. The ARG's are at least as interesting as the CSG's and honestly probably more versatile overall. I appreciate your explanation of it's composition and workings.
