I think the term quarterback is the best way to describe him. He is Marquee, the cherry on top of the cake, a specialist. I think his defensive qualities are overly criticized, and Liverpool's system under Klopp when successful involved him maneuvering in situations where he was never against wingers (LCB, or Henderson covers as Trent bombs on to the attack). Then it switched into the quarterback role and suddenly the need for a fast LCB or a Henderson in the team is not required.

In a team that can keep possession (Slot's team) and gamble with possession in a calculated manner, Trent can be an ideal midfielder without ever needing to get into last ditch tackles. Think of Gertrude in Slot's Feyenoord. I think that's where he needs to improve. Increase his positional awareness and press resistance, rather than physicality.
