Wynton Marsalis - Unbelievable!

Interesting to see the facial reaction differences of
Jon-Erik and Chris both sitting next to Wynton Marsalis when he is playing these fantastic breaks.

Super Rhythm - Section as well.

This is an amazing take on the Armstrong classic. There are hints throughout the rhythm that point to a fresh, modern approach, all the while preserving rather than copying the exact sound of the studio version. The trombone player cooks with the scat. Finally Marsalis is at the very least Armstrong's equal, but IMO he totally surpasses him in technique. A modern masterpiece. Thanks for uploading it Wynton!

One of the MOST E-X-T-R-A-O-R-D-I-N-A-R-Y trumpet solos I've hear in my life. Thank you Wynton!! Alberto E. Raineri, Montevideo, Uruguay.

At the beginning, look at that 2nd Trumpet guy second from the right... he's grinnin' like a skunk eatin' bumblebees through a picket fence!
The other cool thing is that Mr. Marsalis lays down in the weeds for most of this and lets the other guys have their day in the sun - that's pure musicianship.

My Lord! This is inspiring. This is why I practice my trumpet everyday. I want to play like Wynton Marsalis. That is my dream.

Wynton's reaction at 3:00 as the clarinet plays a little 'outside'.

Interesting reading the other comments here to see how Wynton attracts varying opinion but overall admired. I recall seeing him at Spray farm, nearGeelong when he came to Australia. A wonderful celebration of Ellington. He was a great leader, fine musician and a personality with much warmth. That all comes out whatever he plays.

That high note right at the 0:30 mark! This is where WM deviates from the original and begins his own phrasing, and the guy next to him can tell! Watch the happiness his face. That’s what it’s all about ❤
