Well If that stupid drunk pedestrian didn't understand the first 3 times, at least he understood the 4th

It's easy to tell from the last part of the video that the sensor is located at the middle of the grille. When the pedestrian creeped out from the right side, when the Lexus was at a speed of 25 mph, the sensor detected it at last second, which was too late. There should be a sensor and a camera on the side bumper to also detect pedestrians and cars at a stop sign, when the driver's view is blocked by a large object or vehicle on the side of the road.

Props to Toyota for doing a public test like that.

Since I don't know any place in my area where cars drive slower than 25 mph (or 30 mph for that matter), this may not be a practical application yet. Nevertheless, it's nice Toyota is working on it.

They should have had the pedestrian crossing the street while texting and the driver doing the same. They probably don't want people to get the bad ideas they already have.

I wonder how well the new pedestrian avoidance system on the 2014 Mercedes Benz would do in this test? People should still keep their eyes focused on the road in spite of these self breaking systems. The "I thought my car's self breaking system would stop the car" excuse to the police will not get you out of a ticket.

It might be good as they work on it more, at this time it's waste of money because we worry about hitting someone going faster then 20 mph

Not as impressive as I thought it would be. Try that same thing in snow or even wet... the system detects pedestrian too late, how do you expect me to text and drive if I can't rely on the car to drive for me?

For a pricy ass luxury car, the pedestrian-detection system sucks... as well as the brakes.
