What does a typical Russian look like?

To me, it is no surprise, that there are many Russian speakers in Germany. The GDR period and WW2 experience. Even German POWs, of which many were not released before 1955. Even the German language took in a few words, like Datsche (dacha).

The typical Russian? There are some stereotypes, like taken out of a Little Big-video. And some older, classic ones about elderly females, who weigh a lot, wear heavy makeup and seem to be training to become babushkas. Or younger ones, that may be a bit too flashy in their style. Men are typically young, wear Adidas, have very short cut hair and drink out of big brown beer bottles. Or old, a bit fat with a black leather cap on their heads. But these are, of course, a kind of stereotypes, that do exist, but are not the full picture.

That said, it can be interesting how you can sometimes guess where people are from, based on their clothing and appearance. I believe I am quite good at spotting e.g. Slavic people, especially females. They simply sometimes differ in hairstyle, makeup, clothing, facial traits from Danes and other Scandinavians. If I am abroad, I can also sometimes spot other Danes.

The most common view of English speaking world is not a view, it's a fear of Russians. This fear then results in visceral hatred of everything that has even the remotest connection with Russia. The end result is a profoundly negative, irrational and emotional attitude towards Russia and Russian people. Quite sad to observe to be honest
