About Dhirana Academy of Classical Dance:
Dhirana Academy of Classical #dance was founded with the sole purpose of #nurturing the #children in #northwestarkansas with an interest in learning #bharatanatyam . Dhirana strives to bridge the gap between society and the divine art form by inspiring, educating, and guiding. We aim to build a strong #foundation of Bharatanatyam in its disciples.
As the Artistic Director of 'Dhirana Academy of Classical Dance' in Bentonville, Arkansas, Megha mentors and guides a diverse group of over a hundred students annually in the art of Bharatanatyam. We aim to build a strong foundation of Bharatanatyam in its disciples. Dhirana Academy's mission is to cultivate performance opportunities for these budding talents, offering them a wide range of learning experiences such as workshops, competitions, and both artistic and commercial showcases. Through the practice of Bharatanatyam, students establish a meaningful connection with their cultural heritage, contributing to the promotion of diversity within the community. Seven accomplished senior disciples, under Megha's tutelage, have successfully graduated through their Arangetram, a 2 to 3-hour debut solo performance.
For the past five years, Dhirana has proudly presented 'Pradarshana,' an annual Fall student showcase, empowering young talents to perform with confidence before larger audiences. Additionally, the academy collaborates with school districts and various organizations, working tirelessly to bring Bharatanatyam to a wider audience. This endeavor serves to bridge the gap between society and this classical art form, offering inspiration, education, and guidance to emerging talents.
About Megha P. Rao:
Vid. Megha P Rao is an #accomplished Bharatanatyam #artist , boasting nearly three decades of immersion in this revered Indian classical dance form. Her multifaceted journey encompasses roles as a performer, choreographer, and educator, and she holds a Masters degree in Dance from Bangalore University. She holds the distinguished title of a Graded Doordarshan Artist, a recognition akin to NPR in the US. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has entrusted her with the role of an Ambassador of Goodwill, exemplifying the spirit of an Arkansas traveler.
Megha has expanded her creative horizons in choreography, seamlessly blending various Indian dance forms. She is known for her unique conceptualization and choreography in productions like NAVARASA MARGAM, THE EXILED KING, ARDHANAREE, and BAALA-TALE OF KANHA. In recognition of her significant contributions to the performing arts in Northwest Arkansas, she was recently honored with a grant from Artists 360, a program under Mid-America Arts Alliance, in support of her dance production – ‘Baala – tale of Kanha’. Collaborating with Trike Theatre and Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation, she created an original adaptation of the well-known story, The Jungle Book, fusing theatrical storytelling with classical Indian dance.
Having graced the stage in over a thousand performances, Megha has had the privilege of enchanting audiences across the Central U.S. at various distinguished venues. Some recent highlights include captivating audiences at the 21st TANA Conference in St. Louis, #navika in Cincinnati, OH, the 12th & 14th American Natya Festival in St. Louis, Sammilana 2023 in Houston, and Margazhi Nrityothsava 2023 in Chennai, India. Noteworthy venues she has performed at include the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, AR.
Megha frequently engages in collaborative projects with like-minded artists spanning diverse genres of music and performing arts, broadening the expressive vocabulary while upholding the essence of the art form. Given her early recognition in Bharatanatyam, she has garnered accolades in national and state competitions organized by government and private entities.
