Why You’re Better Off When Things Are F*cking Terrible

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over time, is that improving your life isn’t always a straightforward and linear process.
Paradoxically, having your life turn for the worse can make it better in the long run.

Have you ever heard of the term "The Region Beta Paradox" before?

Basically to sum it up, sometimes things that are “worse” can be better.
For example, imagine someone stuck at a dead end job, where the pay isn’t great and the boss is kind of an asshole. But the job is fairly easy and the benefits are ok.
This person would actually be better off if his circumstances were worse.
If the job wasn’t as easy and the benefits weren’t as great, that would propel him to find a better job.

Sometimes in life, things need to get bad enough for us to make the necessary change, instead of sticking it out.

5 years ago, I got fed up with my boring life of going every day to the office. I've left everything: my apartment, my job, my stuff... I've been traveling for 5 years, living as a minimalist nomad, working remotely, and it's been one of the best decisions I've taken in my life, which I would've probably never taken if my life was slightly better then!

You literally described the situation I've been living in for the last 4 years. Your video is the push that we all need sometimes. It's good that you explained it so well, and not just pushed it is unclear where and why. Thank you!

After 19 years i did these changes, no regrets. I set up five fallback options for security and jumped. Completely different experience. Much less stress, no weekends, no evenings, no chaos

I needed this. I asked our a woman last week and she didn't give me an answer. But it was a blessing in disguise

Things won't suddenly change on their own, it's up to you to change them

It's very important sentence

Thank you for this video! I absolutely agree that pain can inspire transformation, but if we are self conscious enough we can take action before the pain becomes unbearable!

Story of my life. Despite rough start, I achieved a lot and still keep going, as I'm never satisfied with "just doing ok".

The other day I witnessed employees act just like the Stock Markets going down the week a ago or so, Sell off. Like I told them when I met them. I took Business Leadership and a Customer Service classes. After getting no feed back, public wise, I took Intro To Stock Trading. Then my mom pointed a book to me while we where in a library called; Financial Founding Fathers by Robert Wright. In it say's 'The U.S. became financially strong in 1800 from "Cheap Labor and some Resources." Been learning about how the global economy has changed. My favorite guy is John Mauldin who writes Free 'Thought's From The Frontline' newsletters. Been reading them for 20 years.

I don't know anyone that can save 6 months of salary in this crazy last 2 decades of ridiculous housing and healthcare costs. Better than yesterday in an economy that's worse than yesterday?

2 Years ago I decided to leave my job for good and focus on my dream, so far it has been the best decision I ever took and i've been on this path ever since (I've faced hardships but i haven't been in Region B all the time as I do procrastinate and coast from time to time) - I do have the solutions but i was not really applying them 100%

Today I've learnt about the Region Beta Paradox and it makes much more sense to have it in front of me all the time as a reminder.

Thank you for your video, i needed to watch this. ♥ (The truth does reach those who need to see the truth)

Thank you for sharing! Your video came at the perfect moment, coz recently I've been mulling over my current situation - not so great yet not so terrible either. I feel dissatisfied the way things are yet not feeling the urgency to change things. This fear setting practice is a handy framework to rethink what I really want to do and give the necessary push for it.

Frog in the pot story is not entirely true. In the experiment the frog's brains were damaged so that (if i remember correctly) only their reflexes worked.

Thank you for this video. I'm a person who abhors change. I have lived my life accepting the status quo because I wanted to avoid the pain I associate with change. Maybe if a bigger tragedy had happened in my life I'd have been motivated to make necessary changes.
