Grew up in the Eighties, was a teenager when this came out.
This movie is completely and totally underappreciated.
He somehow grasped and illustrated how hard it was to be a stupid and ignorant kid trying to find their way in this world...
ALL his movies do this...
He was a GENIUS!

I have no idea why this film is less remembered than the "Ringwald Trilogy" and maybe even Weird Science. This is an almost perfect film, wonderful performances by all the leads and the supporting cast too (Eric's dad for instance, and Elias Koteas). More serious than the earlier John Hughes teen films, but for the last one he made in that genre, it's a wonderful way to go out.

Eric Stoltz is fine! His soft voice! And, those eyes! Most leading guys in teen movies these days are too "perfect" with their six packs and bulky biceps. There's just not a lot of "normal" dudes anymore.
