Finally changing transmission fluid at 270,000 miles!
Vehicle: 2008 Honda Civic.
This car has had no transmission issues throughout it's life and the fluid is original to the car. The condition of the fluid was not as bad as I was anticipating. Has anyone seen worse? Comment below!

I replaced my transmission fluid today on my 2011 Toyota Sienna with 224, 773 miles on original Trans fluid. I was 50/50 with my decision but still decided to do it. The van was previously owned by my sister & was regularly maintained on time at the dealership except the Trans fluid because the dealership said that it’s sealed & lifetime transmission. The van drives normally before the fluid replacement. I was only able to remove 1.5 quarts of trans fluid, put in 2 quarts, did the process of checking the transmission fluid temp & drained the excess fluid. The fluid was darker brown & didn’t really smell burnt. I test drive the car after & it still drives normally.

Glad to see this video. I have a 2008 with around 160k miles on it. I did a drain and fill today. Old stuff wasn't as bad as yours, but wasn't pink either. Figured if I do it once now, I never have to mess with it again. Although I may just start doing it every 50k. Hopefully I get 270k+ like you.

I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla with 175, 000 miles. Trans fluid was never changed and it’s dark. After watching this video I feel better about doing a drain and fill. I bought the Toyota OEM fluid. I will report back after a couple months to let you know how it goes. 😊

Good on you for doing maintenance to give next owner a well taken care of vehicle

My goodness, you respond to every comment. How extremely conscientious and rare! The dang doctors and physical therapy videos don’t do even do this. Congratulations! I already know you’re going to recommend doing a fluid/filter change. 1996 Nissan Quest in ultra mint condition and 135k. What tough darn call. Thank you!

All my Honda and Acura cars transmission drain plugs were way tighter than that the first time I unbolted. And way more ferrous sludge than that on the magnet. This Civic transmission must be an one in a million incredible Honda transmission.

I had a 1999 Honda Civic with 367k miles, never had changed it. Still ran fine, though I think in the last 20-40k miles it did start to exhibit symptoms of old fluid (just overall sluggishness, slight hesitation around 2nd gear)

Just changed mine yesterday @ 57K miles. I have a 2021 Accord Touring with the 10 AT of course.

i just changed half of my fluid at 152, 000km's. it only drained half of the fluid but seems to be shifting a bit smoother. don't be scared to change the fluid, its not that expensive to change it as it will only drain half at a time then just drain it again after 30, 000 or so

If I ever seen that come out of a car, I would just walk away from it. I definitely wouldn’t buy this!! This is definitely the problem with used vehicles

Do you agree with the theory that black trans fluid carries so much metal debris, and that changing it would cause new problems because the new fluid with detergents would send more debris circulating through the trans? My 2014 Ram 1500 (3.6 Pentastar engine)- 8 speed trans is at 103k miles and never been serviced, sealed with no dipstick, no leaks or trans problems. I have had 2 mechanics tell me don't service it because of the mileage.

I just did a 2004 toyota camry at 220k miles (previous at 113k miles) and 2013 ford escape at 211k miles (new tranny at 116k miles) over the weekend. The toyota fluid was a little dark, ford fluid was really dark. Both cars still driving fine. Only replaced about 4 qts from each.

Honestly, gotta give Honda some serious credit here. 270, 000 miles without a change? Go Honda!!!! Great video, btw.

I'm gonna have mine checked. I've had my 2009 Accord since 2015, but only really started driving it around 2017, at 125, 000 miles. It was my mom's(thanks, mom, 😊), but she couldn't tell you what she's had done on it to save a life. A Car Fax Report was basically useless so, at 172, 000 miles, I'm gonna have it looked at.

If it runs fine no point in changing it.

The grey metal shaving are normal as long as its not a ton.

Just found this video. I have 305K on my 2009 Element. Shifts great. The majority of the first 150K was mostly highway. Since then, it's typical 25-50 miles a day 5 days a week driving. What are everyone's thoughts on replacing the fluid and filter? Appreciate the feedback.

Bout to change mine on a 2012 Terrain 2.4 w/ 150K miles that I suspect has torque converter shudder. May dump some shudder additive in if the fluid change doesn't help. Fingers crossed 😅

Awesome vid! Gained my sub! Just did my filter and fluid change on my 1997 Toyota Avalon. It was Burnt! Hopefully it runs good now with its first transmission change. I just bought it used a few months ago and then it slipped on me like 3 weeks ago.

This is big personal debate did a lot research I had 05 camry 350k orig trans fluid my buddy lexus camry and ford van all 15 years plus 250k plus still orig transmission fluid NJ city/highway driving . I hear stories people having issues after changing the fluid . Wasting money changing fluid every 80k or so is it worth it plus new cars gotta be operating certain temp sealed no dipstick . I want my new rav to go over 350k with 8 speed I think I will keep my fluid original . Whats your take highest mileage orig fluid anyone? It seems like odds the car will rust before transmission go bad does changing it even make it last any longer?

Once you get that many miles its safer to just leave it instead of new fluid because some of thst grime might be helping clutches grip and if the new fluid cleanse that stuff out your transmission might start slipping
