ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.

ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Two legends speak with such mutual respect and humility, so much for us to learn from their knowledge and their personal demeanour.

Wonderful discussion on consciousness. Very rroted and profound questions by Swamiji. Replies by Prof Chalmers contained many 'may be's and 'something' and 'somehow' etc. Most of the questions contained the answers. Swamiji was very lucid and sympathetic.

It is quite impressive to observe Prof.Chalmers’s openness to the many views about consciousness with out being adamant. And also the strong convictions of Swami ji’s about advaita Vedanta.

I heard Reality+ on Audible. Its very deep and profound but ultimately Swamiji raised all the points I had concluded with, and he raised some more afterall he's an Acharya!

I look forward to Seamiji's new lecture: It (from Bit) from Chit. Superb!

It's something amazing when you are very interested in philosophy of two totally different guys. Then surprisingly see both of them together, and you realize they know each other very well.

Consciousness can exist removing all content, but what remains finally as content is consciousness itself. The consciousness as observer is the content and due to self referencing, the observed becomes the observer and issue of content does not arise.
The question does not arise when the questioner, question and answer are in superposition onto itself

Swamiji always mentioned Prof Chalmers, so nice to watch this discussion! Recently I was having a dream where I was viewing a childhood photograph of a person whom I only known as an adult. The photograph in my dream was a black and white and the person I saw was roughly 4/5 year-old in the picture; where he was sitting (in a pose) in the steps of a front porch of a house that appeared like those from the the 70s. Upon waking up I was simply mesmerized by the sheer power of the mind to invent an appearance of reality that is so consistent and well orchestrated. I am intrigued by the fact that consciousness can seamlessly project a world which is hard to distinguish on the basis of conventional notion of reality. One thing that blew me away in the dream was that the person whom I have only known as an adult appeared a 4/5 year-old with all the resemblance to the older individual I know but as a child. That is beyond my normal capability to age slide an individual - more like computer programs do that. I think consciousness is the only reality at play.

David Chalmers as a young scientist, first forced the world to look at the hard problem of consciousness. The problem has no easy solutions in Science as it straddles many dimensions of which we are not even aware. A very interesting talk and hope to see more such.
