Thanks! You are the first to make this comparison, I hope all the views you need and the most followers to make more videos. Which did you think better?

Very helpful. Thank you!

I find that wood species, bracing and string choice go along with bridge pins to create the tone you want.

Plastic is cheap and easy for builders. They won't crack the bridge in shipping. Most manufacturers probably expect you to swap out pins as part of your set up.

I like ebony on maple and some roseewod guitars. Bone or horn I prefer on mahogany unless I want a warm tone in which I'm back to ebony. Ebony for more bass too..

Some instruments you may hear little discernable change though often it is subtle. Give it a try and give it time to form an opinion. I really like horn for clarity and sustain.

Thank you again Edwin. Another great job.

Ebony makes my 214ce sound more crisp...I don't think spending a lot of money on pins will make much difference...Ebony is the highest I will go..great playing Edwin..thanks David

Pins are a funny thing, some guitars respond to pin materials much differently then others. In some, it is very noticeable, in others not so much... I think alot has to do with the saddle material, as well as the bridge angle....

This will have to depend on the body/wood type of the acoustic really, in order : Bone > Ebony > Tusq > Plastic. I tend to stick to the first 3 depending on the wood type of the back and sides. Plastic will eventually wear out sooner or later so I take them off almost after the first string change if the guitar is new, but will depend on what is on it already if you got it used.

Brother if you really want to significantly change your tone, get a Blue Chip pick. For what it's worth, ebony on a bright guitar, bone on a dark guitar. But I gotta have that Blue Chip. 👍😁😁

I guess I'm getting bone. Thanks for the demo.

Bright acoustics can be toned down with ebony, dark mellow sounding acoustics use bone to brighten it up a bit. It all depends on the eq you want you to hear from the spec on wood used. I prefer an even tone with clarity/volume/note separation etc.

Really useful video - and great choice of nice basic, consistent progressions to let the (very subtle) difference be heard. I think I'll buy bone

i have always used bone nut and saddle and never considered any material other than ebony for the pins. I favored the bone pins on your sound samples. I will try bone on mine. Thanks for your video. Kenyon

In this example, the ebony seems a bit 'brighter' to my ears.. I happen to use died bone pins in my Larrivee.

I appreciate your video! Are your saddle and nut also bone? I think there's a bit more of that metallic ting with the bone, but i like that sound. I'm still undecided, so i may just get both and interchange them when im wanting a little change

Try Brass next time. They really do provide the 3rd way!

Ebony all the way. It balances the brightness of the bone saddle. If bone rises highs the ebony increases middles

I'd go for the ebony on your guitar, I'm going for bone on my dreadnought with silk&steel strings for fingerpicking

Sir edwin which wood( rosewood b/s, all mahogany, maple back&side) will benefit more the ebony bridge pin?

It's seems like the low E and A string almost completely disappear in the ebony, where as everything can be distinctly heard in bone

What you think about using ebony for a nut (elecric guitar), would it work?

Hi sir, which can you suggest with a solid spruce top with bone nut and saddle, I felt so much sustain on my guitar and bright. A Bone or an Ebony?
