Excellent explanation. I don't trade options on indeces, but I do try to properly consider IV on companies I do trade. Oftentimes the IV is dramatically divergent (aka, higher. Waayyy higher) from the VIX, mostly because I'm a volatility junkie. Don't tell my wife. She thinks I'm way less stupid than that.
