Wow. People really LOVE this book.

I understand the criticism for the dialogue. I think Weir is trying to make some truly complex science topics more accessible. While I’m a bit of a science/math nerd, my wife is not, but the writing style allowed for her to understand the concepts without needing any additional explanation.

I think that’s helpful for her, but I could understand why it’s distracting to another reader.

I’d also suggest taking a look at “The Forever War” one of my favorite sci-fi books.

The way they talk to each other is in fact realistic, and it's written mechanically because the author is that type of person. You say you're in your sci-fi era but you're not going to enjoy that very much if you don't get how nerds think.

This is one of the best books i have ever read. I finished reading it in 2 days because i simply could not put it down. It’s unfathomable to me that someone could dislike this book but i guess not everyone likes science/math like I do

im halfway through the book and i agree 10000% with you! such a cool concept that is just done so Blah. i have no feelings for any character, they can all explode randomly and i wouldnt bat an eye because of the poor writing to actually feel any connection. i know im halfway so i dont doubt much more will happen but so far, everything big that has happened was all climax with such little "wow" factor. i can go on to defend my point more but id rather just move to another topic since this book is just so bland lol. and since i keep seeing it in the comments about "maybe you dont understand scifi". its literally ALL i read lmaoo its just not very good. maybe its more for like young teens and not me whose in my mid 20s lol

If you are into sci fi but want something richer and less scientifically hard, I can’t recommend Hyperion enough.

on god you have to just hate life to not like this book.... how does anyone look up at the stars and not get obsessed with learning about them?? Who actually wants to go through life completely clueless as to how anything works? I hate it here.
