Managing money is different from accumulating wealth, and the lack of investment education in schools may explain why people struggle to maintain their financial gains. The examples you provided are relevant, and I personally benefited from the market crisis, as I embrace challenging times while others tend to avoid them. because union busting in the 80s, lower taxes for the rich giving them less incentive to spread the wealth, and inflation aimed at making wall street richer and main street poorer. the middle class was given birth at a time when our country had a monopoly on resorcues while europe was still rebuilding from ww2. the great depression gave rise to workers rights and uniouns, public works, and higher taxes for the top 10% (i believe the top bracket was taxed at 80%). the 70s saw a great recession and high inflation due to an oil embargo, which allowed Reagan and the republicans to gain power of the senate for the first time since the early 50s. basically, republican policy destroyed the middle class and they are aiming to destroy all saftey nets too.
