As someone from Belgium, this was really the best day of my life. I can still feel the excitement. That magical evening and the upcoming days were amazing. Next morning, I was at the airport. You could feel the atmosphere, everyone knew what had happened the day before. Everyone was so happy. Amazing what a simple game can do.

After this defeat in 2018, one thing I noticed for the first time in my life (I watched all World Cups since 1994), is that this time, our team lost with heads up and no drama. Before the 7-1 calamity in 2014, there seemed to be such a toxic arrogance in the air everytime Brazil walked into the pitch, our media made it look like that whenever the national team lost a match, it was obviously fault of some of our own. It was like the "the Seleção can win whenever it wants, and if it doesn't that is because some of us messed up", the first thing to do was firing the coach right away (interrupting a whole work in progress), and then there was ALWAYS a scapegoat: Ronaldo's sickness in 1998, Roberto Carlos' socks in 2006 (he got so upset he withdrew from the team forever), Felipe Melo in 2010 (this one was the closest to be true, yet it's been exaggerated), and countless others in previous cups, also a lot of completely nonsensical theories on the game/the referee being "sold out" or "sabotage" were often raised in common conversation. Indeed, anything seemed easier than admiting that the other side played better and deserved to win. Now, it seemed that both team, managers and the public have finally grown up, we commended our adversaries for a well deserved victory, and instead of being booed by the crowds in the airport as they came back to Brazil, our players received the applause and recognition of a public that understands they did their best.
Some "evils" come for the best.

This hurts to watch as a Brazilian. We fought so hard and tried our best but it just wasn’t meant to be. Being born in 1998 I didn’t get to see the celebration in 2002 and I wanna see my nation lift that trophy so bad, must be the best feeling in the world
