Don´t quite get it. But if I look only an the block in the upper left corner and I look at 1, 8 and 9 which all touch the cell. Then I know that the block has only 3 free spaces for 1, 8 and 9 and none of these numbers can be in the cell. Therefore only 5 can be there.

wait a sec... why can't i put the 5 in the remaining empty cells of the coloumn? like above or underneath the 1?
