If you are looking for more interesting campaigns in Ante Bellum, then I'd recommend the Ottomans (they are a spawnable tall merchant republic because in this timeline, Osman was a merchant in Constantinople), the Magyars (they can become a horde in the middle of Europe), Rob (the Zunist OPM in Afghanistan) or any of the Persian princes 🙂

Byzantium is kinda fun in this mod, rough start (not as hard as vanilla tho) but lots of flavor, and the ability to restore the Roman Empire by merely having Justinian's borders rather than the 425 you need in vanilla.
