I’m an urban forester and live in the heart of LA. My job consists of walking around neighborhoods all over the city to inspect trees. You’re completely right, LA is not a pedestrian friendly city, but my job has made me fall in love with walking around random neighborhoods. I’ve thought about bringing my film camera around with me a couple times and this definitely inspires me to go for it.

I'll be flying to LA next week to go on exchange for six months (my first time in the US!) and I'm really excited to go around exploring and wander around the city and its different neighborhoods on foot and by bike as I don't have a driver's license. I definitely agree that going on photo walks by foot makes you slow down and register smaller details and things that might take a second glance to notice than if you were driving through an area. I also really appreciate how photographing on foot makes me feel very present with my surroundings :) I've been enjoying following along other photographers' processes through videos like these – really like the calmness of the shot at 2:49!
