With Nintendo completely shutting down the 3DS and Wii U, it looks like a strange situation has popped up around purchased DLC. EA revived Dead Space with a remake last year, but it looks like things aren't going how fans were hoping.

Who is even paying for EA Play? Most of their library is old Madden and FIFA games that Gamestop won't even bother trying to resell, and the big sell for it is being able to play games that you're purchasing separately a few days early. Some people shouldn't be allowed to use money.

It seems to me that early access is basically a streamer tax. They are the ones who would benefit the most form having the game early, so it's kinda like the companies getting a piece of the bits/subs

If I buy a Gold, or Premium edition it isn’t for the early play, it is to get the Season Pass.

That 3DS Smash issue reminds me of halo 3, after the server shutdown many lost their Recon armor since that required a server check. This is why we shouldnt rely on servers for our games content.

I wonder if they will ever start putting expiration dates on games meaning once expired the game is gone.

Shutting down servers in fifteen years, you estimate? That's at least reasonable. I got WWE2K20 to be able to play as the Fiend Bray Wyatt as that's one of the couple games he was in. I purchased the physical game in late 2023. Three years after game release. They have already shut down the servers for this, denying me access to the part of the game you have to play to unlock said Fiend Bray. So even with my physical copy, only three years into existing, I don't have the full game. Ridiculous.

An all digital future is the total opposite of game preservation

Most streaming services went up in price, except Tidal. Tidal emailed me that they are combining their subscription tiers into one, and that's at the base tier price.

I'm glad Nintendo is getting flak for shutting the online servers down. They should have received more backlash for closing the eShops.

I believe I have enough physical games in my backlog to last me for the next 20 years so I’m not worried about the digital future

I loved that in Dead Space Remake they actually included alot references from Dead Space Downfall anime, mostly characters and time frame. The original Dead Space game had only one or two!

Man, hopefully there’s an Archive somewhere on The Internet with all of these games and DLC that are going missing lately…

Damn you Nintendo Fanboys for not buying and playing Dead Space remake.

Even physical copies of games don't come complete anymore. At least in the XB360/PS3 gen, most games would have a GotY edition wherein dlc was installable via 2nd, 3rd, etc disc. I miss that gen. Hopefully Nintendo has invested in cartridge expansion R&D where if a user downloads dlc and/or updates, it'll download directly to the cartridge and not the system's memory.

Ross from Accursed Farms here on youtube just posted a video last week about his initiative (Stop Killing Games) to get the ball rolling on legislation to protect access to purchased games as property. He's targeting a couple different countries with it. He's got a website set up with links to make it easy for people to sign petitions and file complaints.

Anyone find it interesting that EA are allegedly shelving Dead Space in order to work on an Iron Man game? DS released in 2008, same year as Iron Man 1 and even by DS2 Isaac Clarke's suit was essentially a copy of Tony Starks suit (without the repulsors)? Don't forget that DS has 0 gravity segments that mimic flying like Iron Man and both characters are skilled engineers working on mechanical and electrical machinery..

Hmm.. Stark... Clarke... Hmmm..
