What does home mean to a travel photographer? Well, where do I even start?

On today's video, I talk about home. Home is something of a strange concept to me. Obviously, as a travel photographer who lives on the road 365 days a year, the whole idea of home is different to me than most. For me, the idea of home is ever-changing, and isn't a fixed location - but rather a feeling.
So, what does home mean to you?
This video kicks off my Canada photography vlog series. There should be some back country hiking. There will definitely be some landscape photography. And there should be some pretty epic photo locations.

Making your life's journeys the topic of your vids is really putting yourself out there. Really appreciate your photos and your story, and, of course, your mini essays. You make the viewers feel like they have had, if not dinner, at least a little drink with Andre. (My wife is Canadian so I have heard this pitch! Ha ha)

Well said and I totally get it! In 1983, with a wicked sense of "wanderlust", I joined the RCAF. For the next 30 years or so, I served Canada both at home and abroad (what is referred to as "OUTCAN"). In that time, I too developed a complex relationship with concept of "home". In the short term, at any given time, home was where I was living right then. But, at the same time, home was always a small town about 100km west of Toronto where I grew up and where I ultimately came back to when it was time to retire.



It sounds like for you, home is not a destination, but home might just be the journey.

I'm glad you are home. Home is where family are, where old friends are, where your childhood memories are. I watch in awe as you jump from country to country, continent to continent. I watch with some jealously, but also with some concern. We all need to touch base from time to time. Literally touch the land we grew up in. Enjoy your time at home. This was such a well done, thoughtful video. It would have been great regardless, but I've been coming to Calgary now and working around here for a couple summers now and seeing you do videos of where I've carved out a bit of my own home is so heartwarming! Going back to your older vlogs and seeing you hiking Mt Yamnuska is so cool since area means so much to me now too.
