I'm vegan for 12 years now and have been a vegetarian for 25 years. I eat lots of fruits and veggies and tried the soybean-method for a while to get rid of my hot flashes. It didn't help me, so went to the doctor and he prescribed HRT, which helps me very good...I hope my healthy lifestyle will protect me from the risks that may come with it....😬

Roasted soybeans n roasted peanuts mixed with a little spice. Wonderful snacks. I eat every day n I don’t have any hot flashes at all. I didn’t do hormone replacement.

I’ve been trying this myself and have proved this to be true in my own kitchen.

But for those of us not low in estrogen…. I experimented with soy not thinking it would effect my hormones and after 4ish months I developed mild symptoms of estrogen dominance (breast tenderness & edema bloating before my period- which I never had pms before) that increased until I cut soy out of my diet :/
So maybe in menopause I’ll eat soy again.

I have been vegan for a year (vegetarian for 40 years), I have tofu 2 or 3 times a week. I have had soya yoghurt and soya milk with my breakafast for the last 6 years. ....and I still have (for the last 7 years) at least 12 hot flushes a day including night sweats.

If it works or if it does not work, I decided to give it a try. For me, I am post menopausal. And have been eating a WFPB diet for about 10 years. I already ate tofu once a week. I now eating tofu about every other day. I did get the mature NonGMO Soy beans and prepared them in the Insta-Pot. They are more pleasant to me to eat than the Edamame frozen green soybeans as they get nice and tender.

Tofu or these mature soybeans cooked, are easily flavored and to add whatever you may wish to add. My 2 main complaints now is getting enough sleep. It has been also hampered because I have tinnitus which arrived during perimenopause. It is annoying, the other is sleep and the ringing makes the sleep harder to get. But eating more soy than I was feels like I have taken a tranquilizer, in that I feel less annoyed at the ringing, it isn’t that my thinking is foggy, it is not. I feel more relaxed. And my sleep is not always perfect but it is far better than it was.

Hot flashes were greatly handled for me when I gave up all dairy, that cut down hot flashes from 10 times a day to about 3. Now I just get to feel a bit warm, no longer get dreadfully sweaty and at night, I don’t have to get up and put on dry pajamas.

I do still take some melatonin and L-tryptophan. The are essentially the same except the melatonin does not need to be converted. It helps then to get to sleep more quickly, whereas the L-tryptophan converts to melatonin later and helps to not wake up. When I awake, I do not feel groggy. Before beginning the mature soy, I did have times when the melatonin/L-Tryptophan would not work. Forgot to mention that I have a cup of chamomile tea with this at the time and have to drink the capsules down with water. So this means I may have to get up to pee. With the additional soy, I do get back to sleep right away and am remembering my dreams so I am getting into REM sleep.

This is my experience. It is a greater sense of well-being for me.

I am not on HRT, as I am 70 and when I was younger, like 60, was told because my mother and sister had died with breast cancer, both post menopause, that the HRT, even BHRT, could put me at risk of breast cancer. When I visited the gynecologist, I was told that the HRT or BHRT is not risky, but I am too old to be given this.

I live in California, most of the menopause symptoms are subdued but not vaginal dryness. Perhaps in time the extra soy will help. But I do wish I had tried this sooner as I am getting better sleep and that alone makes it worth it for me to do.

With eating Plant-Based, we don’t all choose the same foods and we are individuals. So results may very. But it is safer than drugs they doctors give IMO.

I am going to continue to do this and see how the effect is over a longer duration, like several months.

Soybean is so good. We love it so much esp. tofu, with all of people around. Especially in Asia, like China, Korea, Japan, HK, TW etc. It keeps us slim, never gain weights esp good for women. Western esp. women not get used to it, might take a bit of time.

Beware of some of the people with eating disorders in the comment section: low fat, high fat, white rice, juicing, etc.

The Instant Pot people knew they were eating soybeans. So they Googled "Soybeans Help Hot Flashes". Thus the result that soybeans decreased their hot flashes.

Incredible results? Unbelievable? Falsified? Or do you mean surprising, amazing or astonishing?

Still won’t eat them ☹️. Already had bc and it was the estrogen kind. Even though my doctor gave me good reason why the research regarding soy and bc was bs and he gave me the ok to eat them, I still don’t think it’s worth the risk. Still going through my reconstruction process 🥵. To be clear I don’t think it was soy that cause my bc. I think it was the pollution and the environment. I think my healthy eating and getting my annual check ups kept this thing in check, early detection and “low risk”. To be clear I didn’t have the genetic kind.

Eat a whole food plant based diet with plenty of raw fresh fruits AND low fat (<10-20% of calories from fat) and you will be fine.
