Of all the Synology NAS Drives that the company has ever produced, the 2-Bay series of diskstation solutions is generally considered to be their most popular item. Kinda their Reebok Classic, their Peanut M&M, it is a staple part of their product portfolio and the new DS220+ NAS Drive (follow up to the popular DS216+II and DS218+) is gradually being officially released worldwide - so should you be considering it for your next NAS purchase? It's an interesting question, as it is definitely a very solid solution from one of the biggest names in network-attached storage (as discussed in my DS220+ hardware review back in May) but is it enough for you? Does it provide enough of an upgrade over it's predecessors and most important of all - does it deserve your money? Today I want to discuss FIVE reasons why you SHOULD buy the new Synology DS220+ NAS, as well as FIVE reasons that you SHOULD NOT. So, let's get to it!

This description contains links to and Amazon. These links will take you to some of the products mentioned in today's video.

Reason number 2, Not To Buy, on screen is not the same as the one you are talking about

Following these new offerings from Synology with interest, thank you for reviewing. Will you be doing a 220plus versus a 720plus comparison?

6 Gigs is more than enough memory so scratch #1. No one uses ESata so scratch #2. Two USB 3.0 ports is plenty so scratch #3. GBE is plenty of speed for home users and their respective switches so scratch #4. Five is silly so scratch #5. There's nothing wrong with this NAS. How loud is it?

Still useful in 2023, as a comparison with the DS223.

Thanks for the review. I’m confused, when talking about the processor you said it’s good for 4K transcode. When talking about the dual lan you said not good for Plex 4K transcode.

You mention both LAN ports can provide up to a combined 200MB/s. Was that a mistake? They're gigabit ports no?

1st time NAS buyer here. Been using External Hard drives and I mainly want to purchase this to use as a safe home media storage for the Plex Server. Is this device good for that purpose?

I have had a DS415 play forever and i use it strictly for storage. As an architect i manipulate large CAD files and i would like to store my files directly on the NAS and read write from the NAS versus from my PC onboard SSD storage devices. I noticed when i try this with my current NAS there is a bit of lag which is annoying.

Hi, Wondering if this is the best place.

Looking at DS 218+ or 220+, 218+ is about £50-70 cheaper...
Mainly for alternative to google photos (DSM7 Synology photos, 216J doesn't run too well on it!) and some media streaming.

thanks,

6gig would be fine with me. I've even used a 2Gig QNAP TS-451+ and never upgraded a thing in it's lifetime.... Eneg 1G port is fine with me.. I'm in no rush..
