Huemul monitoring in partnership with Conaf

Показать описание
Cerro Castillo National Park is an important place for the conservation of the huemul, an iconic species of Patagonia, of which only 1500 specimens remain between Chile and Argentina. This situation resulted from various threats such as attacks by dogs and invasive species, livestock diseases, poaching, and fragmentation of its ecosystem.
For this reason, with Conaf, we are working on implementing a National Huemul Corridor, where we seek to protect their habitat from the monitoring of camera traps and the installation of satellite collars. As explained by our field manager of this project, Rody Alvarez, thanks to monitoring, we can identify how they live, move, and feed the various individuals that inhabit this national park located in the Aysen region, and that plays a vital role during the wintering season.
We share work in the field of the ranger Rody Álvarez.
