Interestingly, despite this being a British patriotic song, us Americans are also familiar with the music (just not the lyrics). I do know the lyrics by heart, though :)

"Land of Hope and Glory" is set to the music of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1, which usually plays at graduation ceremonies here in the USA. That's why many Americans know Elgar's original instrumental version as the "graduation march."
