Edmund Ironside is one of my favourite figures in English history, its a pity he isn't better known :( great video as usual!

I like the idea that Cnut greatly respected Edmund Ironside as a great warrior and equal (whether or not they actually duelled) and put Streona to death due to suspecting his treacherous involvement in Edmund's demise.

With the Early English and Vikings looking so much alike in battle one wonders how they were able to tell each other apart.

Never heard about this character before, good topic for a video. Very informative, keep it on just like that)

Then it seems that greed, disregard and disloyalty eventually decided his fate. I think Cnut himself wanted rid of this man, afraid of what he achieved from so little, and for the fact that he was ready to betray even the king who supplied him with all that power. Also, leaving him alive could have caused a great political disruption for Cnut, especially because many noblemen already hated/mistrusted him, which could have eventually developed into a civil war.

I like the fact that Edgar "the Pacifier" is shown sucking his thumb.

A very scholarly presentation indeed...no pesky reenactments..

Great video once again! Have you considered touching on Matilda of Tuscany and the investiture controversy? A very underrated figure and time in European history.

I wrote an essay on Cnut in high school, each time I wrote his name spell check would suggest "Cunt".
It was then that I learnt how to adjust spell check settings.
Before I handed the paper in I did a word search for Cunt, it appeared about 3 times!!

Æthelred was a curse upon England.

His single good decision was to pay off Thorkell the Tall, a danish warleader, who previously raided England under Sweyn. Thorkell was much more loyal and competent than any of the saxon lords Æthelred raised to power and station. It was thanks to him that there was even a chance to defeat the Danes.
