Lesson Objectives: To be able to understand that the distance travelled by a P-wave is the same as the distance travelled by an S wave, to the location of an earthquake. To be able to calculate the distance travelled using the time interval between the P and S waves.

Ensure you have a basic understanding of what seismic waves are before watching this video. Make sure that you understand that there is a time delay between the P and S waves arriving. In this video we talk about how the distance travelled is the same for both P and S waves. We then derive a mathematical expression incorporating the time delay and we use it to find the distance. This is a tricky concept so make sure that you pause the video as required.

hi sir, why don't you divide the final answer of 1870000 by 2,
because isn't the distance that we get the whole distance to the earthquake and back , so we have to divide by two to just know the actual distance to the earthquake
