Is Alex Pereira the best puncher in MMA history? Becoming a UFC Champion is essentially the goal of any mixed Martial artist, so when a fighter becomes a 2 time UFC Champion, in 2 Weight classes, and in a little over 10 fights during their entire mixed martial arts career, it’s an incredible and almost unbelievable feat. Alex Pereira’s rapid ascendancy in mixed Martial arts may have had a little help due to his history in Kickboxing with then Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, with Alex being the only man to knock out the Nigerian born New Zealand based fighter, but the rest has been down to the “Hands of Stone” of Pereira. He has cemented himself as one of the most devastating strikers in not only the modern era, but in Mixed Martial Arts history.

So, what is it about Alex that makes him such an incredible puncher? In this video we will take a closer look.

He is the best puncher for sure because of how cleanly he throws ko punches with little to no telegraph. There have been other one punch knockout artists but none that have done it so effortlessly.

One thing I noticed about Alex Pereira's knockouts, they're always clean, it's always opponent with his hands down, which tells you how good of a technician he is, to perfectly set up his shots, even if he didn't have that amount of power, he'd still get a lot of KO's just cuz of his set ups, catching your opponent off guard is what gets KO's not necessarily power.

What makes Pereira different from others is bone density. This guy has bones of steel. Daniel Cormier said it best, that when Alex one day kicked him softly and it felt like a steel pipe just hit him

Firstly, his posture is incredibly balanced. You will rarely catch him crossing his legs up or being unbalanced on one leg. Watching him vs Strickland this is super apparent because Strickland likes to lean a lot on the back foot to block kicks and avoid punches, so the contrast is super apparent in that fight.
From this balanced stance, his strikes go from point A to point B always in the shortest distance possible, which I think is where his power comes from - they do not lose power going through needless motion, every strike goes straight to target through it's intended path. Seeing this in his punches is a bit hard, but if you watch his mid and high kicks, it's a lot more noticeable. There is minimal rotation of the hips, his leg goes almost straight up and then at just enough angle to get where they need to. He always finds the shortest path for his limb to get to its' target. Essentially, his fundamentals are just incredibly solid, and his striking, especially punches, remind me a lot of Giorgio Petrosyan.
Aside from that, he does a lot of small and different faints to get reactions. One of his favorite things to do is a pull counter.

You should talk to the guy who taught him how to fight. His name is Belocqua Wera.

On the topic of genetics, I think that Pereira has excellent elasticity/ release mechanics in his scapula and shoulder. He often does his close range loading-up with his scapula, rather than a full hip turn. His scapula can thus function as a kind of sling shot. It also definitely helps that his hands are enormous, and his closed fists seem to be perfectly flat on the punching surface. They look like freaking cinder blocks.

he has a really tight hips and joints like me. thats why it is harder to read his moves. cause his hips naturally dont turn. and he utilize this weakness as a feints of the feint.

9:55 excuse me, what?
It literally says that F=MA,
M being mass. You just have to break the equation down more to get the mass in the equation.

i.e Mass * acceleration * velocity = power
