The Process of Surrogate

A surrogate mother is a woman who, by agreement, carries a child for a couple or individual through the help of an agency such as Ed Wards IVF. Being a surrogate mother is about giving the joy of life to those who would otherwise not be able to experience it. Not only is a surrogate mother able to bring joy and hope to a couple or individual, but surrogate mothers are often compensated for their time and effort.

There are several reasons why surrogate mothers are used. They include the women having a hysterectomy, medical issues with her uterus or medical conditions such as heart disease that makes pregnancy too risky or impossible. Surrogate mothers also allow for gay couples to choose the donor of the egg or sperm in order to have a child of their own.

Through advances in modern medicine, an “in vitro fertilization” (IVF) allows doctors to gather an egg from the biological mother and use the chosen father’s sperm to fertilize it, and then safely inserts the embryo into the surrogate mother’s uterus. This method is referred to as a gestational surrogate. It is a more common surrogate method today than the traditional surrogate method where the surrogate mother’s eggs are donated and used to initiate the pregnancy along with the chosen father’s sperm. Through the gestational surrogate method, the surrogate does not have any genetic association with the baby because her egg was not used. This means that the biological mother is the women whose egg it was, and the surrogate is referred to as the “birth mother”.

Through the assistance of Edwards Surrogate, the entire process can be handled and agreed upon by all parties involved. Since there can be legal concerns, using an agency can be a very important aspect of the process.

This video just got me tears. I hold huge gratitude for all the ladies out there going through such pain for other couples. They are really selfless. They get nothing out of this except joy. They are angels in a disguised form. Carrying a baby is not easy, yet they go through the pain. We must respect the surrogates. We are from the UK. The surrogacy process is pretty complicated here. We decided to go abroad. After long research, we found a fertility clinic in Eastern Europe. We absolutely loved working with them! We went through surrogacy there. Our Dr. really took her time to explain all the steps along the way. We could always ask her questions. When decisions had to be made she explained to us clearly the options and gave us her opinion but left us the freedom to make choices. She gave great advice from all the experience she has. We trusted her and took her advice. She knew what she was doing! With a great result. We had some bumps along our journey to become parents. But our Dr. and coordinator were always there, supportive, compassionate and positive! They were easily reachable and always replied or reached out to us when needed. So all the communication always went well. Now we have our son, who was born last year. After many years of infertility struggle my dh and I became parents!
