Microbiologists have been warning us about this since the seventies.

OR... Here me out... Ban the use of antibiotics in animals raised for food.

If c. Diff. is one of the superbugs to which she is referring, I'm ahead of the curve. I was diagnosed with it in January 2018. My life has been in the trash can ever since. I'm not even among those who has taken antibiotics for a simple cold, but this bacterium affected me anyway. I took three courses of an antibiotic developed specifically for c. Diff. In my case, the bacterium resisted the antibiotics. My life has been ruined and I was robbed of precious time with family, especially my brother. If you have your health, you should thank God.

As a antimicrobial steward pharmacist in a hospital this both frightens me and motivates me to do better when we treat patients. Basically we’re the ones enforcing proper usage of antibiotics and helping the providers to make sure we don’t use more than necessary. Resistance, potential for C. difficile infections, and extra adverse events are only the beginning.

Medicare for all would be a good start.

This is why you don't wanna use antibiotics when you catch a cold.

What's REALLY scary is to look closely at Triage protocols for hospitals and emergency rooms.

If you're in college and want to help consider a bachelors or masters in Public Health, Microbiology or Biotechnology. We can do this but we need passionate driven individuals working on it.

Nothing new here. Been known for decades that we need new antibiotics but no one wants to make them. This is why it was so bad for docs to hand out zpacks like they were pez.

So we have a crisis because of over medication, and the solution is more access to medication??

How about we focus on preventative by improving sanitary conditions in food processing and remove the chemicals in our food supply.

I have lupus and my doctors are super quick to prescribe me antibiotics anytime there’s a possibility of an infection brewing but I don’t take them unless there’s actually infection because I am scared to death of forming antibiotic resistance.

There are too many humans on the planet. It’s getting to be like a factory farm where we are in too close a proximity to too many humans all the time.

Friends returning from Europe this past summer are extremely ill…one 65yo male formerly played golf daily, and he can hardly walk! No one is able to provide answers!

Oh okay. All we have to do is improve the quality of health-care. Gotcha! 😉

You think superbugs are going to get you by 2050? We are facing ecological collapse right now that will come much sooner…

In the meantime... MODERATION IN ALL THINGS, UNTIL WE KNOW BETTER. And try to love someone with all your heart. You can't just live for yourself.

I wouldn't bank on humans doing the right thing.

I read about this in my AARP newsletter. It's a real crisis. Thank heavens for Medical staff and Scientists. Just stay informed.
