Показать описание
The old Liszt had a very noticable style change due to his suffering and his awareness of his nearing to death, with daring modulations, experiments with a more sentimental and melancholy feel to it. This is one of Liszt’s last pieces, written in 1885. It is a piano transcription of a Russian folksong provided to him by Alexander Siloti (the dedicatee) called ‘Farewell’, much to the common theme of Liszt’s last pieces (which are such titled ‘A dream’, ‘The lugubrious gondola’, ‘Funeral prelude and Funeral march’ etc.)
